South Korea

Strategically located between the Sea of Japan, the Yellow Sea, and the East China Sea, South Korea has become a significant logistics hub in Asia due to its advanced maritime technology. The Port of Busan, the largest in the country and the second-largest transshipment hub in the world, handled 24.3 million TEUs in 2024, reflecting a 5% increase from the previous year. The government plans to invest $10 billion to make it the world’s largest container port by 2045, enhancing vessel capacity and extending berth length. Additionally, the Port of Incheon, located near Seoul, the capital of South Korea, acts as a key gateway, handling 50% of the region’s import and export traffic. In 2024, it set a record for container throughput for the third consecutive year, managing 3.55 million TEUs and aiming for 3.6 million TEUs in 2025.
